Description

The Grob opening in chess begins with the moves 1. g4 by White. This unconventional opening avoids mainstream chess theory and allows White to attack Black's position from the start of the game. Black has several ways to meet 1. g4, including 1...c5, 1...Nf6, and 1...d5. The positions that result from the Grob opening are often sharp and tactical, with chances for both players to attack the enemy king. White's advance of the g-pawn disrupts Black's standard development and forces Black to find ways to meet White's aggression. The Grob opening, while not very popular, can be a cunning choice for White.
