Description
The Vienna game is an opening for White that begins with 1.e4 e5 2.Nc3. This opening avoids the highly theoretical Ruy Lopez and Italian Game and allows White to occupy and control the d5 square immediately. Black has several ways to meet 2.Nc3, including 2...Nf6, 2...c5, and 2...d6. The positions resulting from the Vienna game often lead to tactical battles where both kings can become exposed. White's lead in the development and control of d5 provide good chances to attack Black's position. Although not as popular as other openings beginning with 1.e4 e5, the Vienna game is a cunning choice for White.
